WarmMark & ColdMark: Essential indicators for a reliable cold chain

Reliable Temperature Control in Every Step

In the world of temperature-sensitive logistics, from vaccines and reagents to food samples and chemicals, temperature control is crucial. A single unnoticed temperature deviation can jeopardise the quality, efficacy, and even the safety of your products.

To prevent this, SpotSee offers two visual, irreversible indicators — WarmMark® and ColdMark® — which provide direct and reliable temperature verification. These simple yet highly effective sensors are available through Novolab, your trusted partner for laboratory and cold chain monitoring solutions.

WarmMark® – Detecting Temperature Rise

The WarmMark indicator alerts users when a product has been exposed to excessive temperatures and indicates the duration of that exposure. Once the preset temperature threshold is exceeded, a red dye migrates through one or more windows, depending on how long the temperature has been above the limit.

Available models:

  • WarmMark Long Run: Suitable for extended shipments of up to seven days at a constant temperature.
  • WarmMark Duo: Combines two temperature limits, for example 10°C and 34°C, for dual monitoring.
  • WarmMark QR: The latest generation featuring a QR code and cloud connectivity, enabling real-time traceability alongside the classic visual indication.

Key features:

  • Accuracy: ±1°C
  • Storage: below the response temperature and 55% relative humidity
  • Shelf life: 2 years
  • No power supply or calibration required

Applications include pharmaceutical distribution, diagnostic samples, vaccines, food logistics, biotechnology, chemical materials, and laboratory research.

WarmMark® QR – The Digital Evolution

The WarmMark QR combines visual detection with digital tracking via the SpotSee Cloud.
By scanning the QR code during transit or upon delivery, temperature deviations are automatically recorded with time, location, and scan ID, fully compliant with 21 CFR Part 11 electronic traceability standards.

Advantages:

  • Real-time data via a cloud dashboard, no app required
  • Full shipment traceability
  • Reduces human interpretation errors
  • Heatmap function for identifying weak spots in the cold chain

The WarmMark QR is being gradually introduced and will eventually become the standard solution within the WarmMark range.
This new system enables users to document and optimise their cold chain with greater precision, while maintaining the simplicity and reliability that define SpotSee.

ColdMark® – Protection Against Freezing

The ColdMark does exactly the opposite: it reacts to exposure to temperatures that are too low. When the temperature drops below the specified threshold (available from –3°C to +10°C), the bulb irreversibly turns violet.

Specifications:

  • Temperature accuracy: ±1°C
  • Response time: up to 30 minutes
  • No activation required
  • Shelf life: 2 years

ColdMark is ideal for products that must not freeze, such as vaccines, biological samples, and reagents. It is also suitable for chemicals, food items, and other products where freezing may affect quality.

Why Choose WarmMark® and ColdMark®?

Feature WarmMark® ColdMark®
Detects Excessive heat Excessive cold
Signal White → Red Clear → Violet
Activation Manual Automatic
Application Heat monitoring Cold monitoring
Typical use Vaccines, pharmaceuticals, biosamples Reagents, food, chemicals

Both systems provide irreversible, visual proof of a temperature breach, allowing for immediate “go/no-go” decisions upon delivery.
They are a cost-effective and user-friendly complement to dataloggers, serving as the first line of defence in cold chain quality control.
