Amorphous carbon electrode for the IKA ElectraSyn 2.0 system: a specialised graphite electrode with a CVD coating that eliminates unwanted organic material absorption. Its reactivity is comparable to that of glassy carbon and RVC.
The amorphous carbon electrode is a specialised type of graphite electrode in which the graphite surface has been CVD-coated (chemical vapour deposition). This surface treatment eliminates the undesired behaviour associated with standard graphite electrodes — most notably the absorption of organic material — while simultaneously modifying the electrochemical reactivity of the surface. The result is an electrode whose reactivity profile closely resembles that of glassy carbon and reticulated vitreous carbon (RVC). The combination of graphite's mechanical robustness with the inert surface properties conferred by CVD treatment makes this electrode particularly well suited to demanding electrosynthesis applications on the ElectraSyn 2.0 platform.
