The reference system compensates for any drift due to power fluctuations or changes in ambient temperature. With a stable light source, readings are fast and stable between your zero and sample measurement. A focusing lens collects all the light coming out of the cuvette, reducing errors due to imperfections and scratches that can occur in the glass. The relatively long path length of the sample cuvette allows light to pass more of the sample solution, ensuring accurate measurements even in samples with low absorbance.
